Eagle Elk Kennel was created through a vision of a keen, agile, far-sighted, female Golden Eagle at the moment of contact with a strong, earth-bound, regal bull elk. The brilliant light of balance; strength, intelligence, and grace, was striking yet in harmony with its purpose and place. Eagle Elk is versatile, sound-mentally and physically, and relishing the passion of life in all that we do.
While we were blessed with dogs and horses in the early years, it has only been more recently that the guiding vision has driven the quest to this energetic and intelligent breed who chose to share our life path. For it is with mutual respect of each other's gifts that we walk in companionship. However, even the best relationships must develop trust and respect between partners to resolve conflicts and communicate one's needs and wants (two different things!).
Aussies NEED to be mentally and physically active. Their heritage as the "old wild west" dog that adeptly herded livestock, performed intricate rodeo tricks, loyally guarded the family while they slept, and became the ultimate "chore" dog, is not to be underestimated. Neither is the Aussie's WANT to please, be with their people, and wiggle their mischievous charm into our hearts. How this balance is struck will create the foundation of a long and either wonderful or adverse relationship. Aussies are high energy, very intelligent, and sensitively bonded dogs that need a purpose (i.e., a job to do) to be happy. Daily exercise and an understanding but firm hand will help shape your relationship into a mutually satisfying one.

To form the best foundation, Eagle Elk Australian Shepherds all harken from generations of sound, proven, titled, and AKC/ASCA registered stock. All of our breeding Aussies are OFA and CERF cleared, and temperamentally sound to maximize the long-term health of each dog and this spectacular breed. Only approved and similarly qualified mates are accepted to breed with our crew because we strongly believe that responsible breeding will improve the breed and reduce the destructive genetic complications. If breeders work conscientiously towards the future health of our canine companions, not just the standing of their individual kennels, many of the detrimental genetic problems can be eliminated. We are an ASCA DNA Certified Kennel.

- • Four generation pedigree
- • Pictures of the puppy's relatives
Puppies are raised in our home, not a kennel, and are evaluated in comparison to the breed standard and whether a specific pup will promote and improve the breed. Based on this assessment, puppies are available on either one of two bases. The first is a Breeding Potential contract with full registration if they are considered to be contributing to the Australian Shepherd breed overall and preference will be given to show/trial/working homes. The second is a Non-Breeding (spay/neuter) contract with limited registration for high quality puppies that would make great activity/sports dogs and/or active family companions. A Breeding Potential puppy is not a guarantee of future achievements, however the puppy has been evaluated as having recognized attributes on which to build with further training and development toward being a show or trial dog, as well as offering their sound genetic contribution to the future of the breed. Only after evaluating both puppy and new owner, do we place pups in homes which best match both the personality and needs of the puppy as well as the future home environment and the new family's desires. We want the best fit possible for a long and healthy relationship. Aussies are not for everyone, and the cutest puppy you see may not be the best match for your home. We will assist you in securing that bundle of joy which will fit that special place in your heart!
